Our sweet first graders enjoyed spending time with their grandparents last Tuesday at "Goodies with Grandparents." Last Monday, we read the book Saturday and Teacakes which is about a little boy recalling memories of riding his bicycle to his grandma's house every Saturday to spend the day together. The little boy described how his grandma had homemade biscuits waiting on the table and how they would work in the yard all morning and then come inside to eat a fresh tomato sandwich and make teacakes together. As a class, we brainstormed memories we all had with our grandparents. The students are currently working on a narrative writing piece to describe a special memory they have with one of their grandparents. Please enjoy the pictures taken on "Goodies with Grandparents" day of some students in our class.

What a wonderful experience for your students and their grandparents! I treasure the memories I have with my grandparents; grandparents are very special people. I can't wait to read your students' writing. Please be sure to invite Mrs. Skinner and me if you have an "author's chair."
